The surface morphologies of bone implant materials composed of mainly hydroxyapatite affect the cell adhesion and growth, and the new tissue formation and replacement. Besides, the adhesive strength between coatings and substrates has a great impact on the in vivo function and duration of the implant materials. The recent deposition conditions are analyzed, the various deposited surface morphologies are enumerated, and the factors that affect the electrodeposition process and the several proposed relevant mechanisms are also illustrated.
