Study on the relationship between urban land use change and tourism development will have a great influence on the reasonable layout of urban tourism resources and the tourism economy. Because of its development pattern, Zhangjiajie is the main research objective. The number, speed, space and patterns of land use change in Zhangjiajie since its inception are analyzed based on the interpreted remote sensing images and land use patterns classification. The analysis results show that the overall scale of the urban land use pattern didn＇ t change a lot during the last 24 years. As one of the most important land use types to develop the tourism sites, the forest and grass land up to more than 78% of the urban land use although it had decreased to some extent. And this kind of trend will not change a lot in future years. Concerned about the temporal relationships, the urban land use change level in recent years is more intense than in earlier times. The construction land grew the fastest in all land use types when taking growth rate and magnitude in to consideration. When the standard deviation of single land use types change relative rate and total land use change relative rate are considered, Wulingyuan district which has the best tourism development environment is the most active city. And its land use values are much higher than the average level of Zhangjiajie. Besides that, the research shows that the urban land use changed a lot from forest and grass land and agricultural land to water area and construction land. According to the research, the mechanism between urban land use and urban tourism development and the feedback of this mechanism can be well explained. The urban land use change in Zhangjiajie city is related to its tourism development. The essence of this relationship is that the tourism development influences the urban land use change through strengthen the urban development goals and urban development characters.
