Objective：To study the expression of E-cadherin and its relationship to human papillomavirus（HPV） infections in trophoblast cells of the first trimester recurrent abortions.Methods：The expression of E-cadherin was evaluated by immunohistochemistry,and human papillomavirus DNA was detected by PCR amplification in trophoblast tissue specimens from 34 women with recurrent abortions and from 41 normal pregnancy women respectively.Results：Comparison with the recurrent abortion group,E-cadherin expression was obviously lower,whereas HPV infection rate was higher than the control group（P0.001）.Conclusion：The down-regulated expression of E-cadherin in the first trimester trophoblast cells was associated with the recurrent abortion.HPV was more likely to be involved in this process.
