Utilizing throe nondestructive analytical methods--PIXE, XRD and Raman, comprehensively, we identified precisely the texture of more than 90 jades which were excavated from Henan Province, dated from the Neolithic Age to the Eastern Zhou Period. The original raw materials of these jade artifacts are versatile and have different characteristics in different ages and areas. From the Neolithic Age to the Xia Dynasty, the jade artifacts from Henan province were mostly made from turquoise and only a few are made from tromolite. From the Shang Dynasty, the tremolite jades went through a rapid increase and occupied the main position. According to the isomorphism and associated minerals or surrounding rocks of turquoise, as well as the containing trace elements in tromolite, we discussed the possible geologic environment of the raw materials of these jade artifacts. It is of profound significance for tracing the ori- gin of raw materials for the jade artifacts excavated from the middle and lower reaches of Yellow River in the future.
