A new polyoxometalate-based compound, [Cu2(bbtz)4(SiW12O40)] (1), has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions by reaction of H4[SiW12O40] 14H2O, CuC12.2H2O and 1,4-bis(1,2,4-triazol-l-ylmethyl)benzene. Single crystal X-ray diffraction shows that the metal-organic moieties in 1 form a highly connected 3D framework with hexagonal channels, while the [SiW12o40]4- polyanions act as four-connected linkages incorporated into the channels.
