土地适宜性评价的目的是因地制宜地进行农用地及其他用地的布局和农用地耕作制度的改革与调整，发挥最大的土地生产潜力，对于缓解人地矛盾，科学、合理、高效地利用土地尤其是耕地的可持续利用发挥着重要作用。为此，以重庆市云阳县为研究区域，基于2008年的土地利用现状图和DEM数据，利用ArcGIS9．2的空间分析功能，以第二次全国土地调查土地分类标准确定的耕地定义为依据进行研究。结果表明，地处喀斯特地区的云阳县适宜耕地的土地面积比重不大，根据这样的形势提出了充分利用三峡蓄水产生的大面积水面和通过土地开发整理来提高全县的耕地利用效率的建议。
