In modern Spoken Chinese, expressions such as nikanni (你看你) , kanni, niqiaoni(你瞧你) and qiaoni(瞧你) are commonly heard. They bear the function of discourse markers, whose pragmatic connotation can be generalized as "reminding others of being aware of their improper words or behaviors". The evolvement of this kind of discourse markers is a process of subjectivization and inter-subjectivization.
