OBJECTIVE To observe effect of percolation leech extract on intracellular liber calcium ion [Ca^2＋ ] i of retinal pigment epithelium （RPE） cultured in vitro.METHODS Use retinal pigment epithelium （RPE） culture in vitro, to observe effect of leech extract on retinal pigment epithelium （RPE） [Ca^2＋] i.RESULTS One hundred and twenty- eight mg/ml leech extract can reduce [ Ca^2＋ ] i of retinal pigment epithelium （RPE） cultured in vitro.CONCLUSIONS Leech extract can reduce [ Ca^2＋ ] i of retinal pigment epithelium （RPE） cultured in vitro to provide experimental evidence for drug treatment on proliferative vitreoretinopathy （PVR） .
