Objective To explore the association between coxsackie B virus (CBV) infection and latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA). Methods A 1:2 matched case-control study was conducted in Tianjin in 2005. The serum IgM and IgG antibodies for CBV were determined by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay. Results The positive rates of antibodies for CBV were 6.3%, 2.1% and 5.2% (IgM Ab) and 14.6%, 9.4% and 12.5% (IgG Ab) in LADA patients, T2DM patient controls and non-diabetes controls respectively. There were no significant differences in the positive rates of IgM and IgG antibodies for CBV among three groups. The results of conditional logistic regression analysis showed that no association of serum IgM and IgG antibodies for CBV with LADA was found. Conclusions No association of serum IgM and IgG antibodies for CBV with LADA is found.
