Objective To appraise the effect of adopting dexamethasone to seal off the root canal on preventing endo- dontic interappointment emergencies （EIE）. Methods A hundred and eighty--three cases of root canal treatment were enrolled. After root canal filling, they were divided into two groups, a group with patients with obvious teeth pain caused by acute periapical inflammatory pain and a group with potential EIE patients, in whom dexamethasome was ad- ministered in root canal and periodontal membrane, respectively. Results The effective rate of dexamethasone on con- trolling endodontic interappointment emergencies was up to 97.27%. Conclusion Dexamethasene can effectively prevent the occurrence of endodontic interappomtment emergencies and relieve teeth pain.
