英文摘要：

The violence in the mass media has been a research focus in sociology and psychology.Many researchers paid more attention to the violence in movies and games,but neglected the violence in anime.This study examined the characteristics of violence that is perpetuating throughout popular teenage anime by the content analysis method.In order to produce a representative sample,596 middle school students were instructed to write down the names of 10 preferable anime,and the top three anime were chosen from the collected 98 anime based on the frequency of nomination.In consideration of so many episodes in each anime,an average of 14 episodes from each anime was equidistantly selected as the research sample.After developing the contextual features coding schedule about the violence scene（mainly including the basic information of a person involving in the violence,basic judgment about the cause and value of violence,relevant consequences of violence caused）,three postgraduate students who were familiar with these three anime were trained as the research coder.They spent seven weeks,six episodes per week,to finish the coding- The results showed that the content analysis reliabilities,which included intercoder agreement and constant reliability,were almost larger than 0.8.And these anime contained a large proportion of violent scenes.Further analyses surfaced other defining characteristics of violence in the anime that appealed to middle school students,namely;1） many of the perpetrators of violence were teenagers,students and heroes,and they were mostly male and attractive;2） the causations of violence were mainly helpfulness,performance of official duties,and violence was always for the sake of justice and could be forgivable;3） violent scenes were usually depicted in close-up and they usually were not bloody;4 ） much of the violence was unrealistic and lacking in humor;5） there were inadequate descriptions highlighting the suffering of victims and a lack of sympathy shown towards victims as well;nevertheles
