A segregated phase directional relay is proposed, which can be used on EHV and UHV transmission lines. Faults in the protected and reverse directions can be reliably identified by comparing the phase angles of the fault component compensated voltage and voltage prior to fault. With its remarkable directional identifying capability, the relay proposed can maintain reliable operation even under fault in power swing and two-phase operation conditions and allows for great fault resistances. Its excellent properties have been proved by numerous digital simulations.
