Catalpol,an iridoid glycoside,isolated from the root of Rehmannia glutinosa,possesses a wide range of pharmacolog-ical activity including anti-inflammation,analgesic and anti-tumor properties.In this paper,its physical properties,roles in the nervous system＇s diseases and mechanisms of neuroprotection studies are reviewed.The further study on catalpol＇s roles may provide a novel strategy for the therapy of nervous system＇s diseases.
