Objective To explore the expressions and correlation of interferon regulatory factor 3（IRF-3） and replication transcription activator （Rta） genes in peripheral blood of children with infectious mononucleosis（IM）. Methods The expressions of IRF-3 and Rta mRNA in peripheral blood were detected by RT-PCR in children with IM（group A, 12 cases） and healthy children （group C, 12 cases）. The correlation of IRF-3 and Rta expressions in group A was analyzed. Results Compared with group C, the expression level of IRF-3 mRNA was lower, but that of Rta mRNA was higher in group A （P〈0. 01）o IRF-3 expression in group A was negatively correlated to Rta expression（r=-0.60,P〈0. 05）. Conclusion Rta may be involved in the down-regulation of IRF-3 expression in IM children.
