Primary biliary cirrhosis is a common digestive system disease, but its name is controversial. Usually, many patients who suffered from primary biliary cholangitis, do not have cirrhosis diagnosed. So this name is not able to reflect accurately the disease nature in the vast majority of patients. Doctors and patients strongly suggest to change the nomenclature for PBC. This review interprets the whole process of the nomenclature changed from primary biliary cirrhosis to primary biliary cholangitis.
