An assemblage of minerals including diamond, coesite and some simple oxides such as SiO2 .MgO, FeO, Fe203, Fe304, Cr203, A1203, TiO2, and (Si, Ti)O2 from podiform chromitites in Luobusa ophiolite was recently discovered. These minerals are a part Of very complicated mantle mineral group consisting of obout 70480 subtypes. It was fully proved that these simple oxides were formed in mantle. High-pressure and high temperature phase equilibrium experiments show that silicates will be decomposed into simple oxides like FeO, MgO and SiO2 beneath the lower mantle (〉670 km). It is thought that the simple oxides were possibly derived from lower mantle.
