The preparation methods of porous anodic alumina (PAA) templates are introduced fully, which contain mild anodization, hard anodization, two-step anodic oxidation and imprinting oxidation, followed by the preparation methods of special shaped PAA templates are reviewed. Finally, the application prospects of the PAA template in electromagnetism, sensors, barrier separation, biomedicine, and bionic nano-materials are also introduced.
