Through investigation on the Jiuyi Mountain nature reserve of Hunan, samples of 7 soil natural proflies and cultivated soils were collected from Fenjiwo, Sanfenshi and Poposhi, etc. Based on the analysis of the main physical and chemical properties of the samples, and the related information on local geology, geomorphology, meteorology, climate and vegetation type, the characteristics of main soil types of Jiuyi Mountain nature reserve were described, and the main processes of soil formation were also discussed. Therefore, this study can strengthen the understanding of the process of soil formation and its influence factors in Jiuyi Mountain nature reserve of Hunan.
