Cubic silicon nitride as the third polymorph of silicon nitride is referred to as the third hardest materials following diamond and cubic boron nitride due to its greater bulk modulus and hardness than those of α-Sia N4 and β-Sia N4. The study progress of static high-pressure and dynamic high pressure synthesis of cubic silicon nitride powders is outlined in this paper. The crystal structure and properties of cubic sillicon nitrile,as well as its research state of the bulk materials are discussed in detail. The application and research o ect of cubic silicon nitride are prospected.
