Brillouin optical time domain reflectometer (BOTDR) is a newly developed distributed optical fiber sensing technology. Based on the linear relationship between the frequency shift of Brillouin back-scattered light and the optical fiber's temperature, a novel high spatial resolution temperature sensor, which has the spatial resolution of decades of times is developed. The author calibrated the temperature coefficient of 3, 0 MHz/℃ through laboratory experiments and then conducted a outdoor temperature test. It is verified that this new type sensor could be applied to distributed temperature monitoring and had lots of advantages compared with traditional ones, such as distributed, long distance, and high spatial resolution measurements and long-term service life.
