The lanthanide-sodium alkoxide cluster SmNa8 （O^t Bu）10 （OH） was synthesized in high yields by adding a certain amount of NaOH, and its structure was confirmed by X-ray. Moreover, its catalytic activity was tested for the Tishchenko reaction of aromatic aldehydes.
