A cross-linked chitosan vanillin Schiff base was synthesized by formaldehyde under microwave radiation, whose structure was then characterized by means of IR and XRD. The solubility of the product.in acidic solutions was also compared with that of chitosan vanillin Schiff base using UV absorption spectrum. The adsorption experiment showed that, as compared with chitosan vanillin schiff base and cross-linked chitosan by formaldehyde, the product is of different adsorption capability for some metal ions. Moreover, as the product possesses excellent selective adsorption for Cu^2+ and is insoluble in acid conditions, it can be used as a selective adsorbent of Cu^2+.
