In order to extract electrophysiology characteristic indexes for identifying vascular dementia (VD), the characters of event related potential (ERP) of persons with different cognitive ability were analyzed. Youth group, vascular demented patient group and healthy elderly control group were chosen as subjects. The visual oddball paradigm was used in the research, and ERP signals were analyzed using smoothing pesudo-Wigner-Ville distribution (SPWVD). Group delay (GD) and instantaneous frequency (IF) were calculated. The results showed that the GD of ERP from the frontal, central and vertex electrode sites could reflect the difference of cognitive ability of each groups, providing a novel way for early diagnosis of VD.
