Long-term model of coastal morphological evolutions has been developed quickly in the last several decades,with the increasing awareness that human interference and natural changes like sea level rise can have long-term effects on the coastal system.This paper introduces the frame,spatial and temporal scales,concerned techniques such as input information reduction and morphological acceleration factor and methods for model validation of long-term morphodynamic models.The applications of such models include understanding processes and mechanisms of coastal evolutions using idealized and complex models and the prediction of long-term evolution of coastal systems under human activities and natural changes like sea level rise.With the development of computer capacity and the increasing understanding of coastal processes,complex models have been used increasingly in coastal environment.Based on the analysis of recent advances in long-term morphodynamic modeling,the prospect of future research is put forward.
