The aldehyde dehydrogenase gene aldH from E. coli has been subcloned into a vector under the promoter of kanamycin-resistance gene. Transformation of this vector into KlebsieUa pneumoniae DSM2026 resulted in a re- combinant strain named K. p(pETPkan-aldH). Under micro-aerobic and shake-flask conditions, this recombinant strain produced 0.47 g/L of 3-hydroxypropionic acid (3-HP) , which was an increase of 89.5% when compared with the wild-type strain. The glycerol conversion ratio and yield on a biomass basis (YP/X) increased by 100% and 92% , respectively. More importantly, fed-batch fermentation in a 5 L bioreactor showed that this recombinant strain generated up to 15.28 g/L of 3-HP.
