The alpha subunit of IKK (inhibitor of NF-κB kinase) complex,IKKα,is one of the two catalytic subunits of the IKK complex involved in NF-κB activation.In epidermis tissues,IKKα is the main regulator that modulates proliferation,differen- tiation and transformation of keratinocytes and plays an important role in preventing keratinocytes in upper epidermis and fibroblasts in the lower dermis from malignant tumor.The findings propose a new target for the prevention of skin cancer treatment.This paper summarizes the IKKα signaling pathways in epidermal differentiation and skin cancer and the IKKα- centered signal network based on these pathways,which provides a theoretical foundation and a new perspective for skin differentiation and the pathogenesis of skin cancer.
