Hypopharyngeal gland （HP） is the main gland in which honeybee workers synthesize and secret royal jelly. The activity of HP affects the royal jelly production directly. There were summarized in this paper, including the relationship between HP secretion activity and developmental period, the distribution rules of secreted proteins in a colony, the secretion cytology of HP, factors affecting the HP development,the determination methods on secretion activity, and the molecular biology on the secreted proteins from HP.
