Flow cytometry（FCM） is an emerging technology for the study of suspended cells or particles suspending in a stream of fluid using flow cytometer. In consideration of its fast detection speed, high sensitivity, and simple opera- tion, the technology has been applied in a number of fields, including biology, medicine and other research or prac- tices. In this paper, the development and principles of the flow cytometer are briefly introduced, the application of flow cytometry in zoological research is expoundedincluding aquatic animals, mammals and animal pathology. The re- sult provided a reference for the further development of flow cytometry, so that flow cytometer can be better devel- oped in zoological research.
