The effect of calcium on microstructure and corrosion resistance of magnesium - manganese alloy was studied. Grain refinement can be greatly improved by adding 0.6% Ca element to magnesium - manganese alloy and the corrosion rate decreases to 11. 8%. This is mainly caused by the formation of Mg: Ca phase,which acts as an effective barrier against corrosion and makes the corrosion current density decreasing.
