Vimentin is an important member of intermediate filament family in mesenchymal cells. Recent advances have shown that vimentin plays important roles in maintaining the shape of the cell, regulating cell adhesion and migration, signaling transduction, gene expression, as well as cell apoptosis. Here, we summarize the progress of the potential function of vimentin in cells.
