Based on regular grid data and TIN data, linear modeling is a common method in building DEM. In linear modeling, the elevation error of nodes can be propagated to the elevation error of the interpolated points. The problem of elevation error propagation in the process of linear modeling when building DEM based on reg- ular data and TIN data has been studied. When variance and covariance of the nodes elevation are related, the formula of the elevation propagation error is reduced. And the average elevation propagation error of the regular grid or the triangulation was calculated, which can be considered as the measurement index on the elevation propagation error in linear interpolating.
