The aerobic granular sludge cultivated in a synthetic glucose wastewater was acclimated and employed for treatment of a synthetic polyacrylamide (PAM) wastewater in sequencing batch bioreactors. During the 43-day acclimation of 6 operating phases, the concentration of PAM in influent was increased gradually. After the acclimation, the spherical PAM aerobic granules were highly effective for PAM degradation with an average degradation rate of 2. 230 mg/(L · h). The mean diameter of the aerobic granules was 1. 85 mm, and the measured settling velocity ranged 8.2-12.8 mm/s. The PAM degrading sludge granules had a MLSS of 9.85 g/L, SVI of 39.21 mL/g, and a density of 1. 034 g/cm^3.
