Sulfoether-functionalized, phosphine-functionalized and un-functionalized imidazolium salts (3a~3d, 4, 5) derived from ferrocene were synthesized and evaluated in the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction. It was found that the palladium catalyst supported by phosphine-functionalized N-heterocyciic carbene derived from ferrocene exhibits better catalytic performance than those of supported by sulfoether-functionalized and un-functionalized N-heterocyclic carbenes in the cross-coupling of 4-bromotoluene with phenylboronic acid.
