We propose a two-grid method for resolving the nonlinearity in finite element approximation of viscoelastic fluid flow. The two-grid method involves solving one small, nonlinear system on the coarse mesh and two linear problems on the fine mesh. These two linear problems have the same stiffness matrix with only different right-hand sides. An error bound for the method is also derived. Numerical examples support the theoretical results and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
