The paper analyzed a lot of confusion on China＇s basic urban concepts such as ＂urban place＂ , ＂urban population＂ , ＂urban scale＂ and ＂urbanization＂ . It put forward that the primary scientific issue of urban research in China is the correctness of basic urban concepts and emphasized the importance of the standardization of those concepts.
