Science and technology monitoring is to exploit massive science and technology （S＆T） information resources for monitoring, analysis and the assessment of S＆T activities. Visual analytics is the science of analytical reasoning facilitated by interactive visual interfaces. This paper focuses on the combination of S＆T monitoring with visual analytiee tnethods. First, the basic concepts and methods, as well as the significanee of the combination are introduced, furthermore, an overview of visual analytiee, its scope and technical researches are explained. Finally, two scenarios, name disambiguation and research trend discovery, are presented for how to apply visual analytics technologies to S＆T monitoring precis based on a general S＆T monitoring framework.
