The microclimate environment in summer impacts the pedestrian's comfort on the street. A summer thermal environment survey was conducted in Kuan Zhai Alley in Chengdu. The result shows the diurnal pattern of microclimate was related to the character of the street. Differences in street design would mitigate or aggravate the impact of climate. In the street with heavy shadow of arbors, setting mist cooling could reduce the air temperature, but it enhanced the relative humidity largely. This strategy failed to improve the environmental comfort effectively in the end. When designing a pedestrian street, landscape architects should incorporate design strategies, such as planting arrangement and choosing appropriate pavements, to provide shade, adjust ventilation, control radiation, and finally create a comfortable environment.
