The processes of solar-grade silicon by the reduction or pyrolysis of volatile silicon compounds and refining of metallurgical-grade silicon is addressed. The high-purity silicon is currently produced By the modified Siemens process, but this process can not cut down the cost of polycrystalline silicon. The refining of metallurgical-grade silicon is one of the processes which produce low-cost solar-grade polycrystalline silicon. But element B and P can not be removed efficiently. So the raw materials which contain little B and P must be chosen. The zinc reduction process is one of the processes which have some advantages in producing the low-cost solar-grade polycrystalline silicon. The analyzed result shows that the Siemens process combining with Key words polycrystalline silicon, solar-grade, zinc zinc reduction process is an attractive process.
