According to the actual business target, the key content of product family design is to translate the product attributes into all kinds of parameters and gain reasonable configuration by solving mathematical programming. As the intermediary between real problem and mathematical programming model, conceptual model is an analysis framework servicing mathematical modeling. The decomposition of product family design process has a basic status to build the conceptual model. In dealing with the requirement of mathematical modeling during product family design optimization process, the meaning and function of the conceptual model has been explained. Furthermore, to obtain a competitive advantage, the impact of product family design on mathematical programming model is studied in depth. Finally, through the BUM product family optimal design case of a PCB manufacturer, the mechanism of the conceptual model is described vividly.
