英文摘要：

Based on a qualitative study and quantitative analysis,alongside a literature statistic approach, this paper is aimed at presenting scientific statistics of the research papers published over the 70 years between 1934 and 2008,on the vernacular architecture in Northwest China＇s rural areas. It also probes into the bulk,types, themes,and research methodologies of these studies. This comprehensive study brings about a holistie picture,a review about the historical evolution, structural properties, as well as the laws of development of these architectural studies. By integrating such studies with the cultural background in the vast regions of China＇s Northwest,the paper signals the direction in which such studies develop and the potential problems that may lie ahead.
