Ren Zhenying is a well-known master in urban planning and design field in China and one of the founders of the research of northwest vernacular architecture. Through completely looking back to his research process of vernacular architecture and hackling his thoughts system, this article vividly shows Ren＇s unique contribution and achievement in the research field of northwest vernacular architecture, and explores the inspiration of his academic thoughts on the future research, drawing on experience and wisdom from them, in order to inherit the thoughts organically and promote the tenet of ＂service the northwest, benefit the rural＂ in the new era.
