There happened an extremely rare event in the history of the chamber of commerce in November 1919. The Japanese general consulate interfered in the presidential election of Tianjin Chamber of Commerce, who wanted to force the ministry of agriculture and commerce to dismiss the newly elected president, Bian Yinchang. Tianjin Chamber of Commerce submitted many petitions to the Department of State and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in order to demand the government of Japan to replace the general consulate,which was supported fly the National Associated Chamber of Commerce of China. At last, although Tianjin Chamber failed in the protest, which had some positive effects on defense of the rights of the nation and the businessmen.
