Unlike the continuous high intensity focused ultrasound exposures used to ablate tissue, pulsed exposures involve incontinuous deposition of mechanical energy. Duty cycle is short enough to allow for heat dissipation between pulses. Local exposure to pulsed high-intensity focused ultrasound can enhance the delivery and expression of naked DNA. Pulsed high-intensity focused ultrasound is an effective method of targeting systemic drug delivery to tumor tissue. Pulsed high-intensity focused ultrasound with direct injection of microbubbles is effective in lysing clots. The uses in the treatment for cancer, thrombolysis, etc were reviewed in this article.
