The reason of the rupture of first spring of DJ1 type locomotive has been analyzed. The first spring of locomotive endures the impact of wheel-set directly and its working environment is very bad. The fatigue life of the first spring is connected with both the spring's quality and the spring's dynamic load coefficient. The dynamic load coefficient is dependent on line condition, suspension mode, velocity and load. The security coefficient must be selected according to the line condition in order to ensure the working life of the first spring.
