Organic contaminants of water and aquatic organisms are one of the most concerned topics at present. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are typical, permanent and widely existing substances in the natural water. PAHs can result in teratogenesis, mutagenesis and carcinogenesis in living organisms so that PAHs study becomes an important and front topic in the research and control of pollution. The present paper reviews the effects and mechanism of PAHs on water environment and aquatic organisms that will benefit in the field studies, management and control of PAHs, protection of water environment and aquatic organisms as well as healthy aquatic products with high quality.
