Motion fidelity is the important basic quality and precondition of cam mechanism desion. Motion distortion and motion fidelity condition are proposed, and an important conclusion that motion distortion may appear only in actuating travel and return trave is put forward. Two factor-discrete parameter and continuous function-that can impact motion fidelity are proposed, and the effect of them to the motion fidelity are thoroughly and systematically discussed. The comcepts of "motion distortion" ," critical motion fidelity", and "absolute motion fidelity" are proposed that can help to forge a deep understanding and awareness of motion fidelity, which has important value and implications in th design of plate cam mechanism with oscillating flat-faced follower.
