本文以常州为例,通过对收集到的该市商业街公示语英语译文的典型问题分析,认为其原因很大程度上是因为译者在翻译时未能充分考虑读者———外国人在其文化背景中是否能接受该译文。本文提出以交际翻译理论为指导,从读者接受的角度出发,以明示"所指"为基本原则,充分关照读者的需求和文化背景,辅以恰当的翻译技巧,解决商业街公示语翻译中的诸多问题。
Taking for example the translation of signs at malls in Changzhou,a key city in the Yangtze River Delta this paper analyzes the typical problems in the translations of signs and public notices and concludes that the problem translations therein result from translators' lack of consideration of target readers' responses to Chinese cultural contexts.This paper,from the perspective of the reader's response,attempts to solve the cultural problems of translation by indicating the referential meaning of the source text in the translation of public signs at malls.
