An ontology-based grid architecture model was proposed in terms of the universal knowledge grid (UKG) to build large-scale distributed knowledge discovery and integration system on the grid. The high security was obtained by extending basic grid security mechanism and using security policy ontology services and firewall ontology services in this model. The rules and methods of ontology construction were discussed and the design and implementation of the foreign exchange supervision integration ontology were introduced. A practical example of foreign exchange management (FEM) was presented to show the benefits gaining from UKG in solving problems.
