Bieshuo（别说） is a polysemous form. Li Sixu （2012） considers as jiushi （就是）, in that both of them have taken the evolution route from lexi it the same ca grammaticalization, i.e., from verb phrases to adverbs, then to conjunctions, discourse mark jiushi） did not phrase buyao z searching the s lization to finally to ers. The current paper proves that the discourse marker use of bieshuo （and evolve from the conjunctive use, but directly from the meaning of the verb heyang shuo （不要这样说）. We hope that the principles and methods of re- ources of discourse markers can be illuminated by means of this case study.
