Hong Kong and Singapore both suffered from British colonial rule,and both of them are dedicated to the construction of national identity after their returning and independence.However,the effects were widely divergent.Singapore has promoted the formation of common values and a unified national consciousness by vigorously developing the economy on the basis of the respect for different cultural traditions.It is necessary for us to learn from the successful experience of Singapore and to adhere to the principle of ＂One Country,Two Systems＂,and cautiously to treat native consciousness according to the actual situation of Hong Kong.Meanwhile,it is also of great importance for our country to proceed to improve the national education,to solve the economic problems as well as to speed up the economic integration between Hong Kong and the mainland,building a unitary national consciousness based on the admission of double identity and cultural diversity to respectively facilitate Hong Kong＇s residents to embrace their motherland from the aspects of ethnic,culture and national identity.
